Final digi pak design

Here is the final digi pak design:

Tour Poster + ticket design

After I have finished the digipak design, as a production group we started to think about what we should do after the music video is released.

From the research, we decided to make a tour, this is following the genre conventions. I made a poster for the tour and the ticket.

here is the final poster and final ticket:

Group feedback (2)

We had a meeting as a production group, we looked through our post production process. This is the last meeting we have before we finish our product. This meeting is also for us to have an idea where we at as a production group.

DigiPak:

From last meeting, the feedbacks I have got are mostly positive and there are only a little bit I need to change. From this meeting I have got confirmed that the digipak is done.

Video:

I have suggested that the hand held section needs to be more playful, obviously after adding the colour and effect will be different but for now I think the non lip-sync section is too still.

Social Media:

We need more interaction on social media, Twitter has got many re-twit which is very good, but on Instagram we need more stories and interaction.

Digi Pak Design process 6

I have changed the spine because from the research I have done, the words are facing the front cover and the background colour has to be the same as the front cover.

Here is the final spine:

DigiPak Design Process 5

At the end of my process I have added the spine. On the spine there are album name, band name , record name and the code bar numbers.

This is for finalizing my digi pak design

DigiPak Design process 4

From the group meeting feedback, I have collected some suggestion for the design.

The first thing is to remove the track list, I don't need to write track list on the back cover.

I also need to swop barcode and lego information positions.

When I was changing these details I found out the inside is other way round. I wanted the inside to be linked but I thought would be on the right is actually going to be on the left. So I re-do the inside.

Here is the final :

Merchandise Design

I have made some merchandise designs for the band, so Maddie and Millie who are in charge of the social medias can use it as a way to promote.

I downloaded some mockup from the internet.

Here is my process:

Group feedback for post production

We have all started our post production, at we decided to meet as a group to give out some feedbacks on each the video, digipak and social medias.

Video:

The feedback I gave was the genre was very clear, it has got performances in the video. The star image was very clear as well, their actions and emotions. The feedback I gave was that we need more hand held non lip-sync footages in the video because the concept we set is having the non lip-sync videos to build up the video and build the group star image.

Social Media:

The genre and star image were both very clear, because they used many rock emojis and have done lot of research on other social media. I suggested that we should have more photos, not just behind the scenes. Having a theme might help with promoting a new album.

DigiPak:

The feedbacks I have got are the back cover colour needs to be brighter, the barcode and the legal information needs to swop places and remove the track list title. Overall the concept and theme and the genre showed very clear. The star image also showed from the inside design.

Overall the campaign is going well and on the right direction. My target is to finish the digipak and change what I have done wrong.

DigiPak design process 3

I decided to design the inside as one picture so when the album is opened the two sides are linked.

I started to draw, I used the blue colour I used in the front cover so the colour scheme matched.

In the end I put four panels into on Photoshop document and corrected some details.

here is the video that shows my process:

DigiPak design process 2

I started to redrawing the concept art and developed a little bit. The feedback says the colour is too dark, so I have changed the background brighter.

I also used Millie's logo idea but changed a bit to make it look better on the album.

Here is the video that shows my process:

Till that point I have got my front and back finished.

Digipak design process

 Design process

After the feedback I have gathered around all the ideas and I have decided to use my draft  concept artwork as our final design idea. This is because we have decided the album name as 'Headache'.

I first sketched out all 4 panels, so I can see they go well together as a digi pak.

I have changed where I place the album name as the feedback is I should change the position.
I also changed the colour scheme, as the front is mainly blue so I will focusing on blue.

Feedback of album artwork/ digipak

I have got some feedback from the group members for my digi pak.

photo:

Positive feedbacks:

- like handwritten idea

- love vcr effect on the front

- like the logo

- follow the convention from colour scheme

Improve:

- the photo inside only show where is my head because is a shoot from the music video

- The colour scheme is too dark for the genre

concept art:

Positive feedbacks:

- love the front design, works well with the back

- This is 100% original idea, link to our own song

Improves:

- logo is difficult to read

- Album name needs to be in different place

- The colour needs to be matched, try use the same blue

- Used red for inside which doesn't link with the front and back

- They don't really work as 4 panels.

- The drawing inside is childish, need to think of something else.

Digi-pak designs

As a production group we have came up with different designs for digipak, this is for we gather ideas for final design. Here are the designs we have got:

My designs:

1. The first design I mainly focused on concept art.
Front: I followed the title song 'where is my head'. There are 4 people on the artwork that represent 4 of them.

Back: the outline of the head front the front artwork.

Inside: they are linked as one picture and on the left there are their pictures. This is because we are promoting the band members.

2. The second design I mainly focused on their photo in the front.

Front: there are 4 members pictures in the front and VHS effect on top so it links to the music video.

Back: handwritten track list

Inside: pure logo on disk and a photo of the band.

Amanda's design:

Millie's design:

Maddie's design:

Digipack research of my genre

What style is the album artwork likely to be and why?

I looked up 3 different prop rock band's digi pack designs. This can help me getting idea for my design and following the genre conventions. I chose to look at their first album because we are making a new band so following the first album design is better.

The first one I looked at is The Vamps, the reason I look at the them is because their style is similar to our band and they have 4 members as well.

At the front cover they have the members photoshoot and the logo is in red which the back and CD are also designed in red colour, so the colour scheme is very clear.

The second one I looked at 5SOS:

They also have themselves in the front cover, the drawing and the back sticky notes have the same conceot and gives out high school vibe. They are also using simple colour scheme, blakc white and red.

Green day:

For Green Day album , they did concept drawing and cartoon in the front which shows their playful vibe as a band and in side they have their pictures.

As first album, 2 of them sued the band photo as front cover, the reason is they are aiming to sell themselves, even though Green Day didn't have themselves in front but they do have them in as inside.

What do you need to include in your design?

 Front:

Parental advisory

name of the band (bigger in font), because we are selling the band

name of the album

Back:

Legal info

numbered track list

barcode

How will you link this design to your campaign?

From the research I have a concept idea, the first thing is to narrow down the colour scheme and them start doing the design.

Group feedback on social media

As a production group, 4 of us all looked into different bands' social media in order to help us running our own social media.

We have come up with conclusion what we need to include in our social media:

- Promotional posts

- Personal Posts (Their daily life etc)

- tracking events posts

- Count down for release

- cross over with celebrities

- Interaction with fans

- Posts which creates star images

Conclusion on social media research

Conclusion

What do they have in common?

By looking at the two different bands' social media, I have noticed that most of the time they are posting themselves as they are promoting the band and mainly the posts about the events. They all post trailers of an event and counting down to keep the excitement. They also post many behind the scene pictures, because that is what the audiences can't see during the events and the fans are willing to know each of their characters.

They also re-twit posts that relate to them, such as music festival official account.

what do you notice, and do you think this was successful?

I notice that they collaborate with other celebrities are successful, and common to other artists. This engage other fans to take notice on the band. They also post some personal life onto the social media, which seems to be successful because that keeps the account more interests.

Timelines for Fall out boy

I looked up to Fall out Boy another same genre band but who has no recent release. I will have a look at their most recent 6 months posts.

Instagram:

They are less active as they have no new album release, the most active period for Fall out Boys would be between July and September as they has a tour. The most recent around 10 posts are all behind the scene or shots from the tour. For tour they only had on post on promoting the merchandise and one post in April for confirming the tour.

Twitter:

On Twitter they are more active as they can re-twit other posts that relate to them or they like. The most recent one is in November where they had a performance. No posts until September the end of the tour. The most active period is the same as Instagram when they had their tour. Before then, they kept re-posting Hella Mega posts to keep active and reminding the audiences.

Timelines for Coldplay

I have found two similar genre bands and went up to their social media. This can help me understand more how social media works and what they have done to interact and engage with the audiences.

1. ColdPlay

(Coldplay Instagram page)

Time line for the social media:

I focused on their Instagram page. They had a recent album released on 15th October, I found out that they are more active before the album release because to keep up the excitement but also after the release they have more events which keep the social media also quite busy.

Then I also looked at their twitter.

what / how social media is used

 Social Media

Marketing before the internet used traditional media, such as: radio, TV, film, prints.

When internet comes over - social media became a big path to promote and market. This is because social media is cheaper, user friendly, tarted marketing, personal interactive and most importantly is it is spreadable.

social media is used to sell the artist/ band products and build the star image. Construct a brand that audiences consume.

In order to make the social media effective, we need to use the social media to engage with the audience and do it effectively. We can even interact with other celebrities on social media to build the image of our artists. Having cross over on social media is something that traditional media can't do and this also gives out the artist's interest to the fans.

Normally on social media we post about their daily life that the fans would like to watch, and when it gets to album release time, we will see posts such as behind the scene, album, tour and live. In particularly active time the social media will be more active as well.

Behind the scene of shoot day

I have edit a behind the scene video from the set up day to the shoot day.

Here is the behind the scene video:

Reflection of the shoot day

The day before the final shoot, as a production group we started to set up the scene. In the afternoon from 3 o'clock. At the beginning we didn't really know what to do as there were a lot to do. We were stuck on where to place everything because the set up we got was not exactly what we were expecting. The place was smaller then we planned. I started off from decorating the wall with posters. To fill up the wall we needed many posters. We have bought some posters and flag which were not big enough to fill up 3 big walls, so we decided to print out some posters and images so do some collage with it.

We then gathered all the props we need from the school such as fridge, table and drum kit. We were stuck on where we would like to place the drum kit, fridge and table. We tried different positions and looked through the camera to see how it looks. When we decided where to place them then we started to fill up the table with beer cans, snacks, CDs, records and all the things we have. We had some extra things that we haven't thought before, such as cloth hanger, shelf, magazines etc. We got from the set designer and we thought they are suitable to be in the set. The set was much smaller than we expected so we had to get rid off the sofa and mattress which were two big idea for us, we planned to have the band hang out on sofa in the VHS section. The reason we didn't tried to keep it in is because that what we had at the time was looking good enough and we thought if we have time during the shoot day, we can change the basement around and get the sofa in anytime.

Here is the picture of our final set:

On the shoot day, I have arrived early to check the set up is ready and alright to shoot. The crew has all arrived before 8:30, and the casts arrived at 8:40. The casts were are dressed up and ready to film before 9 o'clock. We were really happy with time management this time. We started to shoot at 9 on time. For the first few takes we were not getting used to it and trying figure out how the band can be in position and remembering their actions. It took us about an hour to finished the full band set 1 performance, after the full band we then went up to single shots of each members.

During the filming, we had to deal with the band members leaving out for short time due to their private lessons and school meetings. In the morning when we were shooting the lead singer and guitar player the drummer had to leave for 30 minutes for his private lesson. When he was still there we shot the mid shot that he would be in the background and then do the close up which he wouldn't appear. We then continued to do the close ups so he is not in, when he came back we moved on to mid and special shots. We filmed all the performances before lunch which we were happy with, and we had enough footages.

After the short lunch we started to film the VHS section which I personally think was the most difficult one. We had to do hand held camera and having the lead singer using the camera in order to make it look realistic. Also, because of the sofa and mattress we had to think of other action they can do within the set at the mean while. We didn't have time to move around the set as we still got second set performances to do. Thinking the action and trying different angles and frame used up quite a long time. Straight after lunch, our guitar player Molly had to leave for a meeting for 20 minutes so we filmed three boys first. When she came back we asked her to do more so four members have equal footages.

We finished with set 1 around 1:50 in the afternoon, when two of the members helping with the set. Amanda and I helped the members with changing to different costume and doing their make ups. We mainly focused on lead singer George because the lighting in set 2 don't really show their faces and we were running out of time.

When we get to set 2, I did a quick photoshoot with the band just in case we will use them later on in social media or album artwork.

The set 2 performances went very well as the band are used to the performance and it was not like set 1 where they needed to act. The set 2 was pure performance looking straight into the camera. At the end we were running out of time so we had to do guitar and bass solo at the same time. We have got lead singer close up, drummer close ups and guitar bass players together.

I would say the shoot day went very well apart from the problem with set and re-design the actions.
On the shoot day I was in charge of doing play back and taking behind the scene video and pictures. I have got extra pictures for social media and album artworks.
Here are the pictures we can be use for social media:

There are also behind the scene where the crew is in:

I think I did good for behind the scenes, I have got enough good pictures and videos to support social media, behind the scene video and even some can be used for the album designs.

The actors were easy to work with and they helped us came up with good ideas. They do what we direct them to do and they were really enjoying the shooting. I really enjoyed filming the set 2 because the actors were so used to the performance so when it got to set 2 the performance look so good. The VHS section was really fun as well, each of them had their characters and acting out. The VHS section was good to see but it was really hard to shoot. We worked really well as a production group, each of us focus on our role and helping each other. Not just as a production group, we bonded very well with all the casts. I have learnt about some rules when shooting a music video and doing the playback needs to know the song very well in order to queue up the song when the director is needed.
