Conventions of album artwork

The conventions of the album artwork

What is in the front?

Front cover:

  • name of the band/ artist (biggest)
- Artist is what they try to promote, so putting the name on the front cover helps people notice and get to know them.
  • album name
- The name of the album helps the audiences to get a sense of the genre.
  • parental advisory
- Help the audiences to understand that contains rude languages.

Example:

We can see their name and the album's name on the very top with bold fonts.

For Cuco's album, his name is bigger than the album's name, it helps him to promote himself better.
There is a parental advisory in the corner.

Back:
  • track list (numbered and in order)
  • legal info - studio key legal people
  • barcode
Example:

We can see the name of songs in order on the left, easy to see. Adele's face on the right, therefore to promote herself.
At the bottom, there is barcode to scan, and copyright, legal info.

Normal the back is link to the front. The concept of two covers, fonts, images, colour theme should match so people know those two covers come together.

This is the front of the album.
