Advanced Lighting Workshop

Lighting Workshop

House Light is just normal light that comes with the house. Before we turning off the house light we need to let the rest of the crew be aware that we are turning off the house light. This is because when we are on set different people might be doing different things and just to make sure everyone is clear and do not need the house light anymore.

Red Head light would be the most common or usual light we can use on set. When using the red head light we need to make sure the protector is on the light's head. This is for to protect us when the bulb blow out.

(having trace paper)

Having trace papers over the light, can make the light softer and smoother.

Having red head light on one side can create a dark shadow on the face, therefore we need another light to shine on the opposite side. The filling light (light on another side) should fill the shadow and balance the shadow.

Blonde light is what we put at the background. Shine from behind can help to separate the background and the person.  Having two opposite lights and blonde light at the back forms 3 point lighting which is common use for shooting.

The big plastic board is for reflecting the light, for example the light shine from the left then there will have shadow on the other half of the face, so we use the board to reflect the light and balance the shadow. The light and reflection will be smoother than having another light shinning from the right side.

Shine the light behind a theatre flat with plastic will create extremely cream and soft light.

Fluorescent light:

We can change colours of the fluorescent lights, by taking out the colour tube inside and change to other colours. When we shine on the person, the foreground light also name key light is to light the person up. The back light is separate out the person with the background.
