Notice before returning to school

 As a production we reminded them again about bring in costumes and props on Monday. This is to help them remember to bring in everything on Monday, so we have everything keep in safe place. 



Buying costume

During the school break I went out to get the costumes we need for set 2. We asked in the group chat about their sizes and I bought the size they asked for so they fit.

reflection of second test shoot


During our second test shoot, we have done most of the things on the list but we couldn't do alcohol part as we haven't got any. 

At the beginning of the test shoot, we reminded them again with the date we are filming and what they need to bring. We also agreed with having a long rehearsal on Monday when we get back just before the final shoot. 

During this half term holiday they will practice with the action lists we have sent to them.

We arranged 30 minutes meeting, and we used all 30 minutes and done everything we needed to. This time we are more organized. Everyone arrived on time and the test shoot was very productive.

 As a production group, we organized what we need for costume and out them in a table. This is for us be more organized and easier for us to contact them what they need to bring in.

VHS section test shoot

 We did another test shoot just for VHS section, to see if our list of things work. If not, we need to come up with new things. During the test shoot we tried to keep recording everything and we found that sometime just them chilling really works for the video.

 Here is the call sheet we have done, for contacting our casts and crew. We have covered up their private information.

Individual action list

After we as a production group went through the brief action plan, I have made an action plan for the lead singer and guitar player so they can practice. On the shoot day they are more organized so they don't need to freestyle every-time.




Development meeting

 As a production group, we had meet up with our music producer and our media teacher. We have talked about our final decision for set 2. We do not think we will have enough time during the day to break down set 1 and do another set. Also, it is very hard to get our footages exported onto old TVs during the day. We came up with we will change the set 1 a little bit and change the lighting so overall it looks different from the set 1.

After we have decided that we are doing a different set we talked about set 2 costume. At the very beginning we have talked about that we will be having smart suits, but that is not rock enough and this is their first music video so we would like to keep it simple. We decided to have black T-shirt and black jeans in  the end. 




Shooting schedule

 As a production group, we have agreed with a shooting schedule. This is for us to be more organized as group and on that day we have a time table knowing what we should do. Also, we can use it as a shot list so we won't miss any shots on the day.




Action List


I have created a google doc for action list. This includes all the actions for our casts, such as where should the lead singer be and how they move. This will be easier for them during the shoot day. As we have decided that they are not looking into the camera which made it harder to shoot. Having an action list can help them remember their action so each time they do the same thing. I have also added in what they are going to do in set 2. For now we don't know if we are going for set 2 or not but I wrote down what they can do so we are prepared on the shoot day.

I have shared this document to my production group, so we can all see and develop the actions.





Editing workshop

 During this workshop, we have revised Premiere Pro and learnt about how to edit music video. Editing music video is very different from thriller. 


The most important thing for music video is the music sink with the visual images. To make sure the music and videos are sink together, we will be using clapper board every time when we shoot. On the clapper board we have time, when we press start there is a beep noise and the time will start to count. The clapper board can help us find the time when the music starts to play. 


We need to do the same to every footages and layer them up on top of each other. After we placing the footages at the right timing and right place, we need to rename the footage. This is for us easier to find the footage we want later on. Layer up the footages is for that they are all at the right time, we can easily cut and collage them.

Lighting Feedback

 We have talked to the lighting designer, and his general feedback is the lighting we have in mind is doable, and he thinks the light bulb creates the atmosphere very well. The pictures we put on the presentation shows the style very well.

Prop table

 As a production group, we have listed out all the prop we can provide and other things we can't. I put them into a table so the set designer can see clearly what she needs to buy.



Problem with Set 2

 As a production group we have decided that our first set will be very complicated to do as they are not looking into the camera and we need a long time to film.  Also, the VCR section is also filmed in the set 1, so we might don't have time for set 2. 

The set 1 transfers to set 2 will also take a long time. We decided that on the shoot day if we have time we will do the set 2, is part of the plan. 

We will ask our casts to bring the costumes for set 2 as well. 

If we end up doing set 2, in the timeline, after the break (2:00-2:30) we will transition to set 2 performance. All the performance after the break will be happening in set 2.

Reflection on the test shoot

 Overall the test shoot went well, we have got important shots but because we only had 1 hour in total to do the test shoot we did not get all the shots we want. Also, we chose a time where our casts just finished their activities and some of them came late. We need to find a time where everyone can be on time, because we need everyone in order to shoot the video. From this test shoot it reflects that we are not organized enough and we don't have same pictures in our heads.  As a production group we really need to more organized,  such as where are we going to book the place for the rehearsal and for the intro where is George going to stand. The difficulty in our music video is that the casts don't look into the camera when we are filming non-VCR section. I think we should list out all the actions for the casts so this will be easier for the casts and us. 

During VCR section, our lead singer mostly interacted with the guitar player and bass as they just stand next to them so when we edit the video we found out that we don't have many shots for the drummer. This is another reason I think we should direct their actions. List out the actions can make sure everyone have same amount of shots and as a production group we know how we want the video to look like so it is easier just to tell them what to do, if we don't direct them they will stuck on ideas. 

Time management is one thing that we didn't do well, which reflects onto the test shoot. We had 1 hour and we used most of the time filmed the main performance but it left us having 10 minutes to shoot VCR. Even that we didn't have enough shots. I think as a production group we need to arrange a longer time with our casts that everyone is willing to do rehearsal and we organized our a time table. The time table is for us to know how many time we have for performance and how many time for VCR. During our rehearsal because our drummer came late for football so we did nothing but just asking the others to practice. For that time we should just let three of the others do the VCR sections and when he comes we start filming the performance and in the end where we had 10 minutes we could have just focused on the dummer for VCR. On the shoot day we don't have time to think about what we should do next or wait for people, so as a production group we really need to be more organized and direct. We need to communicate as a group and come up with a plan, and arrange more rehearsals. The more we do before the shoot the easier and better we will get during the shoot day. 



Test shoot

 After we finished filming the test shoot with our band casts, Maddie and Amanda have edited two different versions of the test shoot. This is because that we think that all of us have different pictures of the music video in our head and different ideas. Two versions can make us bring the pictures together and combine good ideas.

First Rehearsal and Test shoot

 After our first group meeting, we arranged our rehearsal and test shoot. The rehearsal took place in the band room, so we have the drum and equipment we want. On that day Molly, our guitar player has brought in her guitar and matched bass for Felix. We asked them in the meeting to wear similar clothes to the costume so as a production group, 4 of us can see wether we need to change our costume ideas. 



In the beginning of the rehearsal we went to the music recording room but because of we have not book the room so we need to change location. This is what we should think about for next time. As a production group we need to be more organized. We then switched to the band room, where we think is also good fore test shoot.



We have directed them through the rehearsal and asked them to do the same during the test shoot. We filmed with iPhone, the first time we filmed in wide shot where we can see the full band performance. Then we did close ups. Through the test shoot, I think we spent too much time on performance, which caused us have not enough time for VCR section. 

After the test shoot I think as a production group we really need to more organized because on the shoot day we need to work on time management.

 As a production group we have agreed with a prop list. The list is therefore the set designer to have an idea of what the set will fill with and also easier for us to organize.

 I am drawing the second half of the music video storyboard. I am mainly in charge of drawing VCR sections. When I am drawing the vcr parts I added effect on the drawing so it will be easier for my group members to recognise and re-order them.

I used some arrows to show the camera or the artist's movements. Therefore it is clearer for us when we shoot or make a shot list.

meeting with set designer


 We have meet up with set designer Fran, we told her what is our idea for sets and we went through some of the details such as light colours and props on the wall. We also got some feedbacks from her as she is professional in this industry and the feedback is our set is do-able and as long as we as a production group have got enough decorations for the wall the set will look realistic. 

Our transition to the set 2 will be a big change might take some time during the shoot day. We just need to be more organized. The reason we are doing the meeting with our set designer is not just for her to get the idea and help us make out the set also during this meeting we can develop our set from the feedbacks. The meeting with Fran helped us to understand what we need for props,  therefore we can talk to our casts to see what we can provide.

We have done our first meeting with our casts, during this meeting we have talked about the timeline for our music video therefore to give them an idea of how the music video will look like. Then we talked about the costumes and props, each of the casts members have got their own costumes and we have collected some of the props they have so we as a production group doesn't need to buy some of the props. 
In the end we have arranged a rehearsal time with our casts so we can do the test shoot. 
This meeting really helped us as a big production group gathered around ideas and helped us to be more organised .

Also at the end of our meeting we came up with a band name "Buzz Kill". This is just for our production group can design a logo before the shoot so we can print out the logo and put in the set. Having logo in the music video can also help us with promotion.

Planning Group meeting and rehearsal

 As a production group we have decided to arrange a group meeting with our casts to go through the timeline and concept so they understand the music video better. We think it will be better with they know the song well before doing any rehearsal and test shoot, also it takes less time for the test shoot to finish. We will also book time every week with them for at least one rehearsal. 


We will give them the weekends to learn the song and listen to the song, on Monday we will go through the music timeline and visualise for them so they have an idea on Tuesday what they need to do.
On Tuesday we are planning that rehearse first and we will shoot them doing it.
